Softshell Crab BLT

July 2010 – This place caught our eye for many reasons.  The DDD episode featured a Softshell Crab BLT, in-house made Corned Beef Hash, and Ahi Tuna Potstickers.  We had to check it out.  First of all, the location for this place was terrible.  It was in a busy little pretentious town north of San Francisco.  The cars were bumper-to-bumper for several miles, and it was difficult to get to this little neighborhood.  I didn’t feel unsafe or anything, but it was super frustrating.  If you put too many pretentious aging hipsters in one area, I get easily annoyed.

Ahi Tuna Potstickers

In any case, this place was tiny.  There were 6-8 booths plus the counter.  The booth we sat in was ripped from beginning to end.  With prices this high, you’d think they’d be able to afford to fix these broken booths.  We arrived and ordered our food.  We ordered an Almond Roca milkshake some Ahi Tuna Potstickers to start.  For the meals, we chose the Corned Beef Hash and the Softshell Crab BLT.  The milkshake arrived quickly, and was pretty disappointing, especially for $7.  It was kind of boring, so I guess Iwas expecting more.

Corned Beef “Hash”

Next up were the potstickers.  They were pretty standard tasting, and nothing to write home about.  Finally, the main attraction arrived.  the BLT showed up, then my Corned Beef Hash.  The BLT was good, but completely overpriced at around $19.  The corned beef hash was really disappointing, however.  It was a small pile of corned beef, pressed flat on the griddle, crisped up, then served with a side of hash browns.  This was hardly worth $13.  By the way, it’s really not fair to call that hash.  It’s more of a do-it-yourself hash kit.  Crazy hippies.

In any case, we paid our tab (around $60) and split.  Would I go back?  Absolutely not.  While the service was good, and the food was OK, the stuff was way overpriced for me to even consider going back.  Even in California, there are lots of other places to get a good meal and not feel like your wallet was just stolen.
